Style

Each stake is precision laser engraved in my Phoenix studio on outdoor-rated, UV-stable acrylic — built to stay readable through full sun, rain, and years of outdoor exposure. The engraving cuts through the black surface to reveal a bright white core, so the text pops clearly without paint or film that can fade or peel. Price is per stake.

Tag size: 10.25" tall × 2.75" wide | Up to three lines of text
Material: Outdoor-rated acrylic | UV-resistant | Weatherproof | Matte finish reduces glare
Finish: True two-tone — engraving reveals white core, not painted fill
UV / black-light reactive — glows under black light, ideal for night gardens and displays

Bend at the tag, or no bend?

This is the only real decision here, so it's worth thirty seconds.

  • Bend at Tag — the tag face is bent backward from the stake so it sits closer to horizontal, forming a T. You read it looking straight down from standing height rather than at its edge. This is what most people want for anything planted in the ground.
  • No Bend, Straight — the tag stays flat in line with the stake and reads head-on. Better for raised beds, pots at waist height, nursery benches, and rows you walk alongside and view from the side.

If you're undecided, take the bend. Standing over a flat tag, you're looking at its edge.

Both styles come as singles or in a 16-pack, for labeling a whole bed, row, or collection at once.

What to engrave

You get three lines. The most common format is a common name on Line 1, a scientific name in italics on Line 2, and on Line 3 the detail you'll actually want a decade from now — the rootstock, the year it went in the ground, the cultivar, the seed source. The lines work for anything, though: a name and a date, a garden bed number, a message. Just tell me what to engrave.

Line 1 prints largest. Around 22 characters holds it at full size, and Lines 2 and 3 have room for roughly 30 each. Longer entries still fit — the text simply sets a little smaller.

Common examples from real orders:

  • Meyer Lemon / Citrus × limon
  • Eastern Redbud / Cercis canadensis
  • Desert Willow / Chilopsis linearis spp.
  • Honeycrisp Apple / M7 Semi-Dwarf / (2025)
  • Rosa Above and Beyond / Kordes Climber

Not sure which details are worth making permanent? My plant care guides go through it genus by genus — rootstock, chill hours, own-root versus grafted, harvest windows — and which of those you'll wish you had written down a decade from now.

Working on a larger collection? Upload a PDF or spreadsheet with your plant list instead of typing every name into the form. I engrave each stake exactly as written and ship everything together.

These also make a quietly personal gift — a stake for a memorial plant, a housewarming tree, or a gardener's favorite variety says more than a card. I'm happy to work with you on the wording.

Nurseries, home orchardists, native plant projects, and conservation sites — I work with bulk orders regularly. Message me with your plant list and quantity and I'll confirm turnaround same day.

Ships in 5 business days from Phoenix. Price is per stake — order multiple and they ship together.
All dimensions have a +/- 5% tolerance from the acrylic supplier.

Care and installation

Soap and water is all these ever need — skip glass cleaner and rubbing alcohol, which can craze acrylic. If your ground is hard enough that the stake will not press in, water the spot the evening before and open a pilot hole first. Read the care and installation guide.
